John was a proud Montanian and spent his birth through young adulthood on his family's ranch in Eastern Montana. John loved the wide-open country but in his late teens and early adulthood, civilization (Miles City) called to him to have fun and a bit of hijinks. John and his first wife Janis were married in 1959. They had a daughter Carolyn and two sons, Chuck and Richard. They were later divorced.
John spent his early career in various jobs including department store manager and various sales positions. He was later employed at the Idaho Nuclear Laboratory, outside Idaho Falls, Idaho, as a construction engineer and where he met his second wife Alyce. John had several private sector construction jobs that took him to Texas, Northern Idaho, and Tuscan, Arizona before completing his career at the INL. John and Alyce spent their evenings and weekends embarking on car and motor home journeys, exploring new and known places, always in search of the spot with the best martini (dry) and bacon wrapped filet mignon (well done), golf course to play, and visiting friends and family along the way. When they retired, they continued exploring the Southwest and made their home in Casa Grande surrounded by many friends, new and old. John enjoyed entertaining and sharing his passion for singing and playing guitar. In his early years he was a founding member of the Rhythm Rustlers band, which was the foundation of a life-long passion and hobby of singing and playing for friends, family and a wedding or two. John also loved jamming with his friends and welcomed musicians and singers to join in. He loved the Arizona heat and visited his neighbors and the friends who came to get out of the cold North for a visit.
