Leland D. Holmes
March 21, 1939- November 23, 2024
Leland D. Holmes, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, passed away 23 November, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.
The son of Arthur and Thelma Holmes, Leland grew up in Coolidge, Arizona. He was born 21 March, 1939 in Coolidge, Arizona.
Mr. Holmes enlisted in the Army National Guard as a teenager and went on to the Air Force before entering the U. S. Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3). As part of this service, he was stationed in the United States, Italy, Germany and Korea. He, also, deployed on a combat tour to Vietnam. CW3 Holmes received many medals, commendation letters and honors for his distinguished career.
Mr. Holmes is preceded in death by his son, Mark Lynn Holmes.
He is survived by his spouse Judy, Coolidge, AZ; son, MAJ (Ret) Frank Holmes, Enterprise, AL; Linda Holmes, Cascina, Italy; stepdaughters, Floyce Wilkerson and Cloyce Rakoci, Casa Grande, AZ; sister, Sharron Alston, Williamsburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Morgan Holmes, Jake Holmes, Madeline Holmes, Alessio Ascione, Davide Ascione, Leonardo Ascione, Sabrina Ascione, and Ivan Holmes; three great-grandchildren, Brady Grant, Blake Grant and Keagan Grant.
