Margo Joan Niemitalo

January 1, 1940 - October 17, 2024






Margo Joan Niemitalo, Ishkodeakiing imaabiindig—“The Fire Inside Mother Earth”, age 84, of Casa Grande, AZ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on October 17th, 2024.  


Margo was born on January 1, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN. She was raised in North Dakota and later moved to Minnesota. She raised five children and helped raise many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and proudly helped people gain and maintain sobriety. She worked passionately until her mid-seventies and later moved to Arizona. Margo enjoyed spending time with family and friends, country music, horses, and watching Yellowstone and NCIS. 


Margo is survived by: her sister, Diana “Tudy” Niemitalo, Stanley, ND; her five children, Pamela Moran, Detroit Lakes, MN, Felecia Clifton, East Grand Forks, MN, Derek (Tami) Niemitalo, Williston, ND, Starla (Tommy) Tarnowski, Audubon, MN, and Valerie Red Cloud (Marco), Casa Grande, AZ; and, honorary daughters Ginger (Dennis) Uran and Julie Niemitalo. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Gogo”: Logan, Lacey, Loque (Pamela), Devon, Dakota, Willam Jr “Ponch”, Joshua (Felecia), Lindy, Lisa, Levi, Dezrai (Derek), Chadd, Aaron (Starla), Tashina, Kennedy, Heaven (Valerie) and many loved and cherished great-grandchildren.


Margo will be reunited with her sons-in-law: Timothy Moran, William Clifton, Jerald “Buddy” Tovson, Arleigh Vilas Sr., and Leonard Red Cloud. She will also be reunited with her daughter-in-law, Mary Niemitalo and her close friends, Mary Flaherty and Verlee Kjosen. 


A Celebration of Life for Margo will be held on October 17th, 2025, in New Town, ND. 


In lieu of Memorials, Margo would want people to help and support those suffering from the disease of addiction.
