Richard L. White, Jr

September 5, 1949 - 06-05-2022



Richard (Rick) L. White, Jr., passed away at Abrazo Heart Hospital in Phoenix, AZ on June 5, 2022. He

was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 5, 1949, to Richard L. White, Sr., and Betty Marie Curtis

White. Rick was raised by his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Golda White and was a resident of La

Junta, Colorado for 46 years. He graduated from La Junta High School with the class of 1967 and

attended Otero Junior College where he met and married his wife Emily Malott on July 27, 1969 at St.

Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Rick was a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a wonderful sense

of humor and a caring, generous soul.

Rick served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972 as a radioman with Naval Intelligence

stationed in Washington, D.C. and Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean. He graduated from the University of

Southern Colorado in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and was a

Certified Public Accountant. He worked in healthcare finance as Controller and CFO for 7 hospitals in 41

years, beginning his healthcare career at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center, La Junta, Colorado as

a Chief Financial Officer and retiring as Chief Financial Officer at Moab Regional Hospital in Moab, UT in

2021.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Emily, 2 daughters, Erin White (Bill

Burwell) and Alison White, 2 grandchildren, Hayley and Chase Burwell, brother Randy White, sister

Cathy Bentley and family, sister-in-law, Jeanne McAllister and her son, Brian McAllister and family,

brother-in- law Ted Malott (Debbie) and family, and cousins, Cindy (Steve) Wallin and Bob Sneath

(Debbie) and family. He was proceeded in death by his parents and grandparents, sister Michelle, aunt

and uncle, Bob and Ardeth Sneath and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Barney Malott.

‘Angels in Waiting’, Casa Grande, AZ is in charge of arrangements.


A Celebration of Life for Rick will beheld on July 30th at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Cross/St. Andrew Lutheran-Episcopal Church. 621 Raton, La Junta,

CO 81050. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to the

American Diabetes Association.
